Beethoven: 3 Violin Sonatas, Op. 30
This recording marks the beginning of an exciting long-term project: to present the complete cycle of Beethoven’s violin sonatas. These ten works stand at the very heart of the violin–piano repertoire, tracing Beethoven’s creative evolution and illuminating the profound dialogue between the two instruments.
It has been a true joy to collaborate with my Oberlin colleague, Francesca DePasquale, whose artistry and insight bring fresh life to these masterworks. Together, we are committed to exploring every facet of Beethoven’s genius as revealed across this cycle—from the youthful brilliance of the early sonatas to the bold innovations and emotional depth of the later works.
This release is the first installment in the journey. We look forward to sharing the remaining sonatas, completing not only the ten violin sonatas but also adding to my ongoing exploration of Beethoven’s complete works for piano: the 32 piano sonatas, the 5 cello sonatas, and now, the 10 violin sonatas.
Stay tuned as this project unfolds—an invitation to join us in experiencing the full scope of Beethoven’s extraordinary legacy.
